Signs
of Addiction Checklist
If you have any of the following signs, there
is a good chance you are addicted and should seek help:
- You are using alcohol and other drugs
or gambling to feel better.
- You are using alcohol and other drugs or
gambling to cope with things that bother you and deal with
problems.
- You need to use more alcohol and other drugs
or gambling to get the same feelings you used to get.
- Sometimes after using drugs or alcohol, you
do not remember what happened.
- You sneak drinks, other drugs, or gambling.
- You rarely have fun unless alcohol/other
drugs/gambling is involved.
- You use stronger alcohol, other drugs or
gambling to get a good start.
- You feel guilty about your alcohol, other
drug or gambling use.
- You feel guilty about your actions when you
use alcohol, gambling or other drugs.
- Others close to you are complaining about
your use of alcohol, other drugs, or gambling.
- You ignore concerns your loved ones have
about your use of alcohol, other drugs, or gambling or your
behavior while using.
- You think your problems justify your use
of alcohol, other drugs, or gambling.
- You begin to hang around with others who
use alcohol, other drugs, or gambling as much as you do.
- You feel bad about how your use hurts others,
but do not know what to do about it.
- You promise to get your life in order and
do better, but it doesn't happen.
- You try to control your use or quit, but
are not successful.
- You stop doing things you used to enjoy if
they do not involve alcohol, drugs, or gambling.
- You have problems with work and/or money
as a consequence of your use.
- You don’t eat proper foods at regular
times if your are using alcohol or other drugs.
- You are sick, have lost weight, or feel
physically bad most of the time.
- You do things that do not reflect your values
or the way you were raised while using alcohol, drugs, or
gambling.
- You try to use alcohol or drugs with those
who are worse off than you to feel better about yourself.
- Even when not using, you have difficulty
thinking, remembering, or doing things that used to be easy.
- Getting alcohol, drugs, or opportunities
to gamble are your whole life.
- You feel alone and unable to control your
fate because of your use.
- You have been in jails or mental wards because
of your use of involve alcohol, drugs, or gambling.
